The article above speaks about the tradition of forgiveness among the Coptic Christian and the impact this is having among Coptic Christians who had become slack in their practice of the faith, and even among their Muslim neighbors.

The families of the Copts who were beheaded by ISIS in Libya last year and those who suffered and died among the Palm Sunday bombings have expressed forgiveness for their persecutors, hoping for the opportunity to turn their hearts to Christ and to peace.  They offer an example to all of us, especially those of us in the First World who too often take our religious freedom for granted and hold grudges of the most petty of matters.

Forgiveness not only has psychological benefits.  It has spiritual benefits.  To forgive is a mandate from Christ Himself.  “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
