Harris Is a Threat to Catholics

I genuinely believe that Kamala Harris represents a threat to Catholics in the United States. There is no question that her policy positions are contrary to Catholic teachings. As a politician and a free citizen, of course, she is welcome to hold those positions. But Harris takes it farther. Just as Joe Biden, who is the president with the worst record on religious liberty in our country’s history, Kamala Harris believes that it is the proper role of the government to pressure the Catholic Church and individual Catholics, to reject their faith if they are to work in the public square, or are to be considered enemies of the state if they hold positions contrary to that of the Democrat party.

Biden’s administration has consistently attempted to force Catholic hospitals to perform abortions, sex-change operations, euthanasia, and sterilizations. The courts, so far, have sided with the Catholic hospitals. However, the Supreme Court failed to resolve the matter with the Biden administration over emergency rooms performing abortions if they are deemed to protect the health (the wording is “health,” not “life”) of the pregnant woman according to federal government definitions. That could be interpreted as meaning that any woman who desires an abortion could go to an ER and insist, with the concurrence of the federal government, that she needs an emergency abortion to save her health, and the Biden administration is telling ER docs that they must be prepared to perform abortions in such cases, despite state laws banning abortions. We’ll see whether or not ER abortions are done more frequently in light of this.

There is no question that Harris supports the ongoing efforts to force Catholic hospitals to perform abortions, and to make abortion access in ERs available. But it’s not just Catholic hospitals and abortions that are the concern. There are also concerns about what a Harris administration would mean for Catholic adoption or foster care services who serve only married, heterosexual couples. Many Catholic agencies were either forced out of the adoption and foster care services, or chose to end those services, because of government pressure on them to serve same-sex couples. The Supreme Court ruling in Philadelphia, while a victory for Catholic adoption agencies there, was limited only to the specific actions of the City of Philadelphia, and not a blanket rejection of efforts by government to pressure Catholic agencies to work with same-sex couples. I don’t see these pressures on Catholic Charities or other adoption and foster care services ending under a Harris administration.

And what of Catholics working in government? Should they be disqualified because they are Catholic? During a confirmation hearing for a judgeship, Senator Kamala Harris was one of at least three senators who questioned the nominee, Brian C. Buescher, about his membership in the Knights of Columbus, specifically because the Knights are pro-life on abortion and oppose same-sex “marriage.” In response to such questioning, then-Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE) introduced a Senate resolution, which passed unanimously, saying that disqualifying a nominee to the courts on the basis of membership in the K of C was unconstitutional.

Harris is so pro-abortion, she wants to shut down pro-life pregnancy centers that provide needed assistance to mothers who choose to have their babies. Why? Why would anyone who calls themself “pro-choice” want to shut down centers that help women choose life for their child? Isn’t that part of being “pro-choice.” Apparently not. Apparently, being “pro-choice” means choosing abortion, and not choosing the life of your child. She calls assistance to women in crisis pregnancies “predator practices,” because they assist women to choose life for their child. Harris even voted against the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which would have required that infants who survive failed abortions receive the basic medical care to which all other infants are entitled. We’re not talking about children who die from abortion. We are talking about living human beings outside of their mothers’ wombs who are lying on a medical table. Do these children, now born, not deserve basic medical care? Harris thinks not. They were destined to be killed by abortion, and they deserve to be abandoned and left to die.

The Biden administration has weaponized the Department of Justice against pro-lifers. Penny Nance, in her article for “Newsweek,” writes, “The Justice Department routinely ignores radical activists who shut down entire highways, blocking access to emergency health services and injuring others in their wake. These individuals are afforded First Amendment protections—freedom of speech and freedom of assembly.” These activists are rarely prosecuted. In contrast, Nance writes, “The DOJ proudly lists on its website all the people it is prosecuting for FACE Act violations. ‘Interfering with reproductive health rights’ is the euphemism frequently used to describe peacefully sitting in front of an abortion clinic.” As well, the DOJ has invested little in the finding and prosecuting of individuals guilty of the 100 attacks on pro-life pregnancy clinics and over 300 attacks against Catholic churches since the Supreme Court Dobbs decision. If Harris is elected president, she will certainly continue the use of the DOJ as a weapon against the pro-life movement. This is demonstrated by her going after pro-lifers as Attorney General of California. When David Daleiden revealed that Planned Parenthood was illegally selling human fetal parts, what did Harris do? Instead of investigating Planned Parenthood, she raided Daleiden’s home and seized his private property. Planned Parenthood had contributed lots of money to Harris’ campaign for the senate. Certainly she wasn’t going to investigate Planned Parenthood for crimes. Better to investigate the whistleblower.

Biden was forced out of the presidential race because he had become a liability. It became clear to anyone who watched his debate with Trump that Biden no longer had the mental acuity to serve as president. Why he is still president is anyone’s guess. But then the Democrat delegates chose Harris to replace Biden. There was no primary process. No one got to vote for Harris except those delegates who had already committed to Joe Biden. They switched their allegiance to Harris after Biden was pushed out. It’s likely that had Harris been required to go through a primary process against opponents, she would have lost, given her terrible performance as a presidential candidate in 2019 (she withdrew before the first primary was even held). What has she done as Vice-president to make her worthy of the White House? I would suggest she has done nothing. I cannot point to even one accomplishment Harris achieved as VP. She was given the responsibility of securing the border and of investigating root causes of the influx of illegal immigrants across the border. She failed miserably. The Border Patrol union put out a statement on X regarding Harris’ efforts on the border: “If you were given a job two years ago with the explicit goal of reducing illegal immigration, and then you sit around and do nothing while illegal immigration explodes to levels never before seen you should be fired and replaced. Period.”

I find it interesting that Harris and the Democrats are blaming Trump for the failed bipartisan border bill (the bill included a lot more than just action on the border, and Republicans claim it would have done little to secure the border). Basically, this is implying that Trump had more influence as a presidential candidate than Biden or Harris did as president and vice-president. That’s quite an admission! Senator Lankford (R-OK) and Senator Sinema (I-AZ), Senate sponsors for the bill, both ultimately voted against moving the bill forward, accusing the Dems of being more interested in optics than any real progress.

I cannot see Kamala Harris as president. She is an unserious person. Her word salads leave listeners baffled over what she is trying to say. Her only accomplishment, frankly, is being the right race and gender at the right time. She and her campaign are attempting to hide or openly deny her previous very progressive record because they don’t think she can get elected on that record. There are a lot of reasons not to vote for Harris for president. Her anti-Catholic positions are only one of them.

Be Christ for all. Bring Christ to all. See Christ in all.
