President Obama signing Executive Order cutting government spending
A video has been going viral of former President Barack Obama back on November 9, 2011 discussing ways the United States government can cut waste and save money, even as Congress delays in taking action. He spoke of various departments of the government setting the goal of saving 20% on their spending and putting then-VP Joe Biden in charge of monitoring the savings of the various departments and keeping them on track for doing so. The Democrats loved it!
Oh, how times have changed! Now that President Trump has taken government waste by the horns and given Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) the task of identifying waste and fraud and cutting it out of our budget, the Democrats are all about how mean and horrid Trump and Musk are, denying government departments and projects the funds they need to supposedly meet the needs of the American people.
Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) spoke with Stuart Varney about cutting waste. In that interview, Sen. Kennedy makes the point that, since 2019, the American population has grown 2%, while government spending has increased 55%. Fifty-five percent increase in government spending in less than six years! What are we spending that money on? Most of those years were during the Biden presidency – the same guy who was tasked by Obama to make sure government departments were cutting spending.
Is there any U. S. president in recent memory who has not promised to cut wasteful government spending? I can’t think of one. And most politicians, Democrat and Republican, have at least occasionally campaigned on cutting government spending by cutting government waste. The problem is, as Obama pointed out, our deficit is so ridiculously large, that cutting government spending is going to require a great deal more than simply cutting waste. We’re gonna have to cut things that people like. Trump has promised not to cut Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid spending. It would be foolish of him to do so. There would be such an uproar, I doubt even Trump could survive it. Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are program people depend on and have paid into. No one’s gonna be interested in those benefits being cut. In fact, if anything, we need a plan to re-invest in Social Security, given that experts say that we’re gonna run out of the fund in the not-too-distant future.
I have no idea how many millions or billions of dollars DOGE has found and saved. What I do know is that our government’s spending is out of control. If we have to sacrifice a few good things in order to make a dent in our spending, it would be worth the sacrifice. We cannot continue like this. It is unsustainable. The Democrats know this. The Republicans know this. Unless they’re ten grades of stupid (a distinct possibility), those burning down EV charging stations also know this. So, why are they protesting? Why are the Dems making such a fuss? Why are states and AGs suing the administration to stop the efforts at cutting waste, and why are judges ruling against these efforts? One word: Trump.
If it were Obama, they’d love it. The proof is in the pudding. Watch the video above. If it were Clinton (either one), they’d love it. If it were Biden … well, I guess they’d be confused, because Biden would never even attempt such a thing. But if he did, they’d love it. But because it’s Trump, they hate it because all things Trump must be opposed, must be protested, must be hated. The fact that Trump is actually trying to do what so many presidents before him promised to do and never did – never even tried – makes him an exceptional president. If he accomplishes what he says he hopes to, he will deserve the thanks of a grateful nation. But he won’t get it. Why? Because he’s Trump.
Budgets are moral documents. They reveal the priorities of a person, a family, a state, or a nation. Our national budget, for too long, has demonstrated an utter lack of concern for our descendants, those who will come after us and suffer the consequences of our government’s unfettered spending. We have a moral responsibility to our children, our grandchildren, our great-grandchildren, and every succeeding generation to make the sacrifices necessary to get government spending under control. Playing politics over the matter serves no one, least of all the generations to come who will reap the tares we have sown. Will we leave them any wheat at all?
Be Christ for all. Bring Christ to all. See Christ in all.

Bob, I hope you can at least agree, in order for any “cuts” to be meaningful, an auditor has to have a fundamental understanding of what is being audited. What’s going on now is unprecedented. College drop outs headed by an unelected billionaire (with a personal self interest to have US government programs privatized) are literally destroying people’s lives and long standing government programs (most of which support the less fortunate) without understanding the basics of the job or department. Geez even I know COBAL! If this was truly about saving American tax dollars, why haven’t the military/Pentagon budgets (by far the biggest part and waste of government spending been audited? I’ll never forget the government contract for “required ” 10k toilet seat covers found years ago. Because it’s much easier to stop helping less fortunate people (foreign and domestic) by defunding USAID, Medicare, meals on wheels, etc. and apparently nobody “needs” public libraries, national parks, PBS, the post office or consumer protection agencies, EPA, etc. We all know businesses and developers have always been ethical about self regulation. And pollution is just a necessary consequence of building and drilling. God didn’t tell us to take care of the earth or anything? And government Bank regulation is even a bigger joke, since there is no history of bankers ever taking advantage of people! People should just read the fine print on something like a compound interest loan for college kids. Anyone should be able to “easily” understand how that’s calculated! I seriously hope you have read Project 2025 and agree with that .. because THAT is REALLY what this all about. Peace be with you.
I’m personally curious if electric cars and trucks (i.e. Tesla) are now the “right” thing to support? I thought green energy and climate change are just crazy hoaxes by the “left” (and science)? Wait, recharging stations were part of the chopping block..🤔

I understand that no one is going to be happy with budget cuts. We’ve become accustomed to the idea that the federal government will and should fund everything. Yes, what’s happening now is unprecedented, at least in recent decades, but only because no president has actually tried to cut the federal budget before, while everyone has promised to do it. Should this be cut? Should that be cut? If one’s favorite program is on the chopping block, then of course that will be opposed. Everyone wants everyone else’s budget to be cut, and never their own. USAID has been funding ridiculous programs, programs the US govt has no business funding. Trump has said he will not cut Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security, and that seems to be the case. Meals on Wheels is not a federal program. It may be that libraries, post offices, national parks, etc. will suffer cuts. If that’s the case, local communities need to make up the difference, or services will have to change, perhaps charging a minimal fee for entrance into national parks. DOD cuts have mainly been in the area of DEI programs, but who knows what the future will bring? I’m not sure cutting actual military programs is a good idea at this time, given the threat from China, though perhaps we could be paying less for NATO and the other NATO countries could pay more. Again, NATO has become rather used to the idea that the US will carry the load for mutual defense. I’m not sure what bank regulations have to do with the US debt or annual budget. In any case, federal regulations and regulators didn’t prevent the 2008 mortgage crisis. But if one is of the mind that the federal government is in the business of managing everything, then I guess one would go that way. I recall a panel discussion of Memphis business leaders and social agents discussing how to address problems in Memphis. Harold Ford, Sr was there. Most present were about local leaders and organizations creating solutions. But Ford was all about the federal government needing to take the lead.
Funds for EV stations should be cut. The country is not at a place where we are ready for EVs to be the norm. And producing electricity creates a lot of pollution. Also, the US leads the world in cutting carbon emissions. The protestors burning EV stations aren’t protesting for or against climate change or pollution. They’re protesting Elon Musk. Climate change is real, of course, but I’m not expecting the cataclisms many activists are predicting. I think Bjorn Lomborg has a balanced, realistic perspective on the matter. Fossil fuels are going to be the mainstay for the forseeable future.
I hope we can agree that a 55% increase in government spending in less than six years in untenable. Perhaps we could simply go back to 2018 spending levels. That would be a start. Regardless, if we do nothing but keep this ball rolling downhill, there will be a crash. And that crash will not limit its impact to the billionaires. The hardest hit will be the poor and middle class.
