Democrat politicians have been pushing back on President Trump’s claim that America’s cities are crime-ridden and that this is caused by Democrat policies. Dems point out that some of the most dangerous cities are in red states with Republican governors. This is true. But governors don’t run cities. Mayors do, with City Councils. Memphis, rated by various sources as the most dangerous city in the U. S. is, indeed, in the red state of Tennessee. But Memphis is also a city that has been run by a Democrat mayor since 1991. That’s almost a quarter century of Democratic leadership. In 1991, Memphis was not on the list of the eleven most dangerous cities in the United States. Now it tops most sources’ lists as the most dangerous city in the United States. I don’t know how that happened, but I know it happened under Democrat leadership. That has been the story of many cities. Many of the cities on this list have been run by Democrat leadership for decades. St. Louis, second on the list, has not had a Republican mayor since 1949. That’s more than six decades of Democrat leadership. The bottom line is, the most dangerous cities are run by Democrats. Democrats can’t deny that, but they sure will try. Instead of pretending that crime is not a danger in their cities, Dems ought to acknowledge it and do something about it.

Lists of most dangerous cities vary somewhat. Many cities are on all lists. Here is the list of the twenty most dangerous cities in the United States and their mayors from the Safe and Sound Security website:

UPDATE: I have added to the list the last year in which a Republican served as mayor of these cities. This is not to suggest that Republicans would necessarily have done better in keeping these cities off the list of twenty most dangerous cities in the U. S. There are many factors that contribute to that designation. But it is to say that these cities have been under Democrat control for quite some time, many of them for decades (or more than a century in a couple of cases). Why are cities that have been under Republican control for many years not on this list? Why are the twenty most dangerous cities in the country cities that have been under Democrat control for decades?

This is a stone-cold fact: With the exception of Miami, which is twentieth on the list of twenty most dangerous cities, the top nineteen of the twenty most dangerous cities all have Democrat mayors. The Democrats need to acknowledge this, own it, and adopt policies that will reverse it.
