This is a great story. A high school student named Teddy Fischer scored a telephone interview with Secretary of Defense James “Mad Dog” Mattis. Mattis’ cell number had been inadvertently published in a photo by the Washington Post, which removed the photo once they learned of the breech. But, not before Teddy Fischer wrote it down and took the initiative to call the Secretary of Defense and request a phone interview. Much to Teddy’s surprise, Mattis called back and they arranged a time for the interview. That alone would make this a great story.

But, the best part of the story is the interview itself. Teddy asks really good questions, and Mattis takes those questions seriously, giving thorough, thoughtful answers. Please take the time to read the full interview. It’s worth it, not only because of the great story behind the interview, but because of the interview itself.

I feel much better and much more hopeful about our country because James Mattis is our Defense Secretary.
