December 21 of Advent: Bethlehem

The Jesse Tree

December 21 of Advent: Bethlehem

A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Micah (5:1-4a):

“But you, Bethlehem-Ephratha least among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel; whose origin is from of old, from ancient times.

“Therefore the Lord will give them up, until the time when she who is to give birth has borne, then the rest of his kindred shall return to the children of Israel.

“He shall take his place as shepherd by the strength of the LORD, by the majestice name of the LORD, his God; and they shall dwell securely, for now his greatness shall reach to the ends of the earth:

“He shall be peace.”

O Radient Dawn, from the smallest and humblest place You brought forth the One Who would be King of Israel and of all Creation. Bethlehem, least among the clans of Judah, is now etched in the hearts and minds of all people as the birthplace of our Lord and Savior, the shepherd Who brings His fold to pasture in the Kingdom of God. We dwell securely now in Your arms, reconciled to You by the sacrifice of a life lived in perfect obedience to Your will, even onto death. He is our peace. Come, Lord Jesus! Amen.

Be Christ for all. Bring Christ to all. See Christ in all.
