The Women’s March is sponsoring a “Rally for Abortion Justice” scheduled to take place today in Washington, DC. Supporters of “abortion rights” are being asked to join the march in order to send the message “about our fierce opposition to restricting abortion access and overturning Roe v. Wade before it’s too late.”
An interesting and disturbing aspect of the march is found in the “What to Bring” section of the website, which also includes a list of things to not bring to the march. What should you not bring to the march? Well, you should definitely leave your weapons and recreational drugs at home. That’s prolly a good idea. Included in the list of what not to bring, though, is this: “Coat-hanger imagery:– We do not want to accidentally reinforce the right wing talking points that self-managed abortions are dangerous, scary and harmful.”
Yes, you read that right. No, I’m not making this up. The Women’s March’s “Rally for Abortion Justice” doesn’t want to give the message that “self-managed abortions are dangerous, scary and harmful.” So, they’re asking women to leave the coat-hanger imagery at home.
Coat-hanger imagery has long been part and parcel of pro-abortion rallies. But, not this year, says the Women’s March organization. Coat-hanger imagery is off the table because, well … it seems that even coat-hanger abortions are now on the table as a legit option for women.
Now you, along with every other person out there who hasn’t lost his or her grip on reality, might be thinking to yourself, “But, self-managed abortions are dangerous, scary and harmful.” A woman or girl trying to perform an abortion on herself with a coat-hanger is on a short trip to a massive infection, internal bleeding, bowel perforation, or possible death for the herself, as well as her child. Why would an organization that purports to fight for women’s rights not want to give the message that self-managed abortions are dangerous, scary and harmful? Are they anticipating the day Roe v. Wade will be overturned by the Supreme Court, and so they don’t want to discourage women away from considering the option of even self-managed abortions?
Are these people crazy? Yes. Yes, they are.
What’s going on here? Here’s my thinking. Say you’ve managed to convince yourself, or you’ve been taught all your life, against all known science/biology, that this living, growing human being inside the womb is nothing more than a clump of cells. Or, even if more than that, even if a living, growing human being, you’re convinced that killing that child is still justified for any number of reasons at any time during the months of in utero growth and development, up to the moment before birth. And, say that you’ve convinced yourself that the “right” to kill that child is essential to your dignity as a free, autonomous person. Given that scenario, it’s not a big leap to conclude that you’re willing to approve or consider the killing of that child by any means necessary. So much so, that even self-managed abortions, even coat-hanger abortions, are somehow on the table of options for getting rid of this child.
Organizers for the Rally for Abortion Justice ought to be deeply ashamed of themselves. But, I can see why they’re not. Once killing children becomes a reasonable option for solving a problem, it’s not hard to justify almost anything.
Lord, have mercy.
Be Christ for all. Bring Christ to all. See Christ in all.
