Pope Leo XIV
My jaw hit the floor when they announced the new pope – Robert Francis Cardinal Prevost, now known as Pope Leo XIV.
As I have written: the only thing predictable about the papacy is that the papacy is unpredictable.
No one saw this coming. The conventional wisdom has always been that an American could never be elected pope. The cardinal electors have shocked the world, and the Catholic Church in America. Most of all, I think, they have shocked Robert Francis Prevost.
