The Department of Justice has published a report today telling us what pretty much everybody with working eyes and ears already knew: that the Biden administration weaponized the Department of Justice against pro-life protesters, while essentially ignoring the crimes committed by pro-abortion protesters.
Shortly after Donald Trump became president, he pardoned twenty-three pro-life activists who had been convicted under the FACE Act. Numbers are not easily come by, but according to the December 19, 2024 issue of The Washington Stand:
“‘Since the start of the Biden-Harris administration until May 2024, the DOJ had brought a total of 24 FACE Act prosecutions against 55 defendants, with only two of these cases concerning attacks on pregnancy resource centers. To this day, the FACE Act has never been used in defense of a church since it was passed in 1994,’ said the subcommittee chairman Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas). In all, 50 of the 55 defendants were pro-life, and the department obtained 34 convictions, according to data from the Biden Justice Department.” This was not equal justice under the law. Rather, it represented a two-tiered justice system: If you were pro-life, even standing peacefully, singing hymns outside an abortion clinic might find you arrested and put in jail for months; if you were pro-abortion, even vandalizing a church, or fire-bombing a pro-life pregnancy center will be dismissed or utterly ignored.
After a thorough going through of over 700,000 documents, some of the findings the DOJ reported include:
- The Biden administration colluded with pro-abortion organizations, such as the National Abortion Federation, Planned Parenthood, and Feminist Majority Foundation, in its efforts to target pro-life individuals, sharing information with these groups and receiving information from these groups on constitutionally-protected activities, often monitoring pro-life activists for years with the goal of catching and charging them.
- DOJ prosecutors knowingly withheld evidence from pro-life defense attorneys, conspired to keep people of faith off juries, and arrested pro-life individuals using overly aggressive tactics, rather than giving these people the opportunity to turn themselves in. The whole point was to intimidate others from pro-life activism. I recall the case of Mark Houck, who was charged with shoving an abortion clinic escort and whose attorneys offered to bring Houck in peacefully. Instead, the FBI raided his home with twenty-five men, several vehicles, and five guns pointed at Houck and his wife and children. Houck was aquitted by a jury of his peers.
- The lead prosecutor on every FACE Act prosecution during the Biden years was used as a reference for the National Abortion Federation’s applications for private grants. That’s a conflict of interest and an ethics violation.
- The Biden DOJ asked for sentences for pro-life defendants that were more than twice as long than those asked for pro-abortion defendants. The average requested sentence for pro-life defendants was 26.8 months, while for pro-abortion defendants it was 12.3 months.
- And, of course, as pointed out above, while the FACE Act is supposed to protect both abortion clinics and pro-life pregnancy centers, the Biden administration focused almost entirely on prosecuting pro-life activists, while ignoring or giving barely any attention to attacks by pro-abortion activists against churches and pro-life pregnancy centers.
Happily, the days of weaponizing the DOJ against pro-life activists and protesters are over, but there is no way to secure that it will not happen again, and the Trump administration has been accused of weaponizing the DOJ against his political enemies. And, along with pardoning those pro-life individuals who were wrongfully convicted for crimes against the FACE Act, Trump has also pardoned hundreds who were, in my mind, rightfully convicted for attacking the Capitol Building on January 6, 2021.
This is the United States of America. People have a right to peaceably assemble. People have a right to peacefully protest. It is not right that, so often, those who protest by burning down blocks of cities, pulling down statues, attacking our federal buildings (even our Capitol Building!), or causing injury to others, are not prosecuted (or are pardoned), while those who peacefully protest are. It is not right that people are charged and prosecuted for their political beliefs.
Our two-party system has turned into one in which neither party has the best interest of the country at heart, but only the best interest of their party. Too many politicians are no longer public servants, but exploit their office to profit, often in terms of gaining power, but often materially. Public service to the country is not supposed to be a way of enhancing one’s privilege or pocket book. It is supposed to be a sacrifice, which is how men like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson regarded it, which is why both were only too eager to get out when they could! Our Executive Branch is way too powerful, and our Legislative Branch has allowed that to happen by prefering to quarrel among themselves more than considering serious legislation that would benefit the country. Supreme Court nominees, as recently as the 1990s, were often supported by 90 or more votes in the Senate. Now, every nomination wins or loses by strict party-line votes. In the 1960s and 70s, there were a considerable number of moderates in Congress from both parties, and many Republicans found themselves voting with Democrats on legislation, and vice verse. Today, there are virtually no moderates in either party, and most Representatives and Senators vote along party lines. Many voters have given up on both parties and now identify as Independents, a political identity almost unheard of in the 1960s. The rise of Trump has only exacerbated that, with Democrats willing to support the most outrageous policies, or refusing to support the most common sense policies, based solely on where Trump stands on the matter.
Now that the Democrat party has been hijacked by its bizarro extreme left-wing, who knows what the future holds? Most Americans are simply not going to support abortion with no limitations, open borders, free everything for illegal immigrants, sex-change operations for twelve-year-olds, men competing against women in sports, boys in girls shower and locker rooms, race-based promotions, teaching kids that science and math are racist, people with long criminal records being set back on the streets to commit more crimes of violence, defunding police departments, socialism as public policy, government owned grocery stores, government controlled medicine, government owned or controlled everything … the list doesn’t end!
Most people want to live their lives with as little engagement with the government as possible. They want the government to keep their borders safe, keep their neighborhoods safe, keep their schools and churches safe, and keep the potholes filled and the cracks in the sidewalks filled. They want a place to take their garbage or have it picked up. They want equal opportunities to achieve and rise above their current place. They want to be able to speak their minds peacefully without threat of getting arrested. The Biden administration reneged on much of the above. That’s why Trump won so handily. I’m glad this report came out. I’m glad it exposed the corruption in the Biden DOJ regarding pro-life individuals and activists. I just hope the next administration doesn’t have to come out with a similar report on those treated unequally under the law by the current administration.
Be Christ for all. Bring Christ to all. See Christ in all.
