James Erdman III testifying before Congress on COVID-19 cover-up
Yesterday, James Erdman III, a CIA agent formerly assigned to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Director’s Initiatives Group (DIG), testified before Congress that Dr. Anthony Fauci and the CIA during the Biden administration maneuvered to cover up the origins of the COVID-19 virus. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who is Chair of Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, derived from Erdman’s testimony that, “CIA scientific analysts concluded multiple times between 2021 and 2023 that a lab leak was the most likely origin of COVID-19. Yet those conclusions never shaped the official narrative, never made the intelligence report. Congress was never told.”
For full disclosure: James Erdman III is also co-founder of Feds For Freedom, an advocacy group backing efforts by federal employees who challenged the vaccine requirements imposed by the Biden administration. Records show that Erdman engaged in some of those efforts on behalf of Feds for Freedom.
Why the cover-up? Because according to Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), Dr. Anthony Fauci, in his role as Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) from 1984 to December 2022, “helped fund the Wuhan lab. He supported and funded gain-of-function research, and then he tried to cover it up, and then he worked to cover it up from the American people.” US funding for gain-of-function research had been banned from 2014-2017 because of poor oversight and the inherent risks involved in seeking to increase the potentiality of germs and viruses. That ban was lifted under heavy restrictions in 2017.
Basically, what Fauci and the CIA are being accused of is knowing that the US was partly funding gain of function research at the Wuhan lab in China, and that the COVID-19 virus originated via this gain of function research at the Wuhan lab and was released because of poor oversight at the lab. They are also accused of covering up these facts by suppressing scientific analysis that concluded that the virus had originiated at the lab and, instead, substituting a zoological or natural explanation for the origin of COVID-19 (that is, bats) so as not to be held responsible for contributing to the origin of one of the most devestating pandemics in world history. David Morens, Dr. Fauci’s top advisor, was indicted last month for having “deliberately concealed information and falsified records in an effort to suppress alternative theories regarding the origins of COVID-19”. As for Dr. Fauci himself, it seems that the statute of limitations on indicting him ran out on Monday. He had received a full pardon from President Joe Biden, but that pardon was rendered null and void by President Donald Trump because the pardon had been signed by auto-pen. As of today, neither Trump’s administration or Congress have moved to bring charges against Fauci. Whether or not they still can, Sen. Paul says he’s determined to keep the pressure up on Fauci.
So, here again, we see the arrogance of humans. First, in doing research for the purpose of manipulating germs in order to increase their potentiality – literally, their danger to the world. Second, to use their positions of power to then cover up their efforts to do this. And, in Fauci’s case, it worked! Dr. Anthony Fauci stood before Congress and the American people and told both that the COVID-19 virus originated in bats in China and that somehow the virus was transmitted to humans from those bats, and thus the pandemic began. He testified to this, demanding that his testimony not be questioned because of his credentials. Fauci told NBC News in June, 2021, “Attacks on me, quite frankly, are attacks on science.” After criticism from Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Fauci declared, “They’re really criticizing science, because I represent science. That’s dangerous”. So, to question or criticize Dr. Fauci was “dangerous.” In other words: Listen to me! Don’t question me! To question me is dangerous! Just do what I say! If the allegations are true, Fauci lied through his teeth, and he will likely suffer no repercussions for doing so.
Now we are learning that, while closing schools, businesses and churches had mixed results, at best, against the spread of COVID, the academic, economic, social, and health consequences were not worth it, and were more often worse than the effects of the virus. The bottom line is, we knew the population that was at greatest risk of suffering significant consequences from COVID: the elderly and those with co-morbidities. Younger, generally healthy people, including children, simply did not face the same high risks when contracting COVID. Yet, we adopted policies that treated everyone as being at equal risk. In the process, we held our children back academically, forced the closure of untold numbers of businesses and the financial ruin of the people who owned those businesses, and lost social connections and necessary emotional and spiritual support from each other. All of this occurred while we watched the number of individuals suffering suicidal ideation and suicide attempts increase and suicide among youth increase. As well, drug abuse and overdose deaths rates increased. Finally, we watched our government engage in absurd and unconstitutional violations of the rights of citizens, all while observing the hypocrisy of our political leaders who enjoyed activities from which ordinary people were restricted, even as they increased their control over every aspect of our lives.
Trust in government and in societal institutions has dropped considerably over recent decades. The reason is a long list of abuses of public trust. The Vietnam War and Watergate caused many to realize that their government lies to them almost as a matter of policy. The mainstream media started taking sides on issues, rather than simply reporting on them. The Church lost the trust of many because of the sexual abuse scandal. Hollywood and her celebrities are often mocked for the overwrought political messaging that seems mandatory for almost every movie released now and for their unsolicited political advise on nearly every issue. Our education system has been revealed as unsuccessful in teaching our children the basics of what they need to know, largely because schools have surrendered their primary mission of education and adopted one of political and social indoctrination. The actions of our government and medical leaders only exacerbated the mistrust Americans now have in these institutions.
When doctors demanded that people wear masks and isolate themselves from others, so much so that grandparents often died alone in their hospital beds, but then gave their consent to march in the streets to protest racism, with thousands walking elbow to elbow, people took notice of the double standard and they were angry about it. When a federal judge required San Diego to allow strip joints to open during the pandemic but churches were required to remain closed, people took notice of the double standard and were angry about it. When one business serving the general public with outdoor eating is told to close shop, but another only yards away is allowed to be open, people took notice and were angry about it. When the mayor of Denver begged his constituents to stay home for Thanksgiving rather than travel to visit family and risk spreading the virus, then literally went from the TV studio where he recorded this PSA to the airport to fly out of state to visit family, people took notice and were angry about it.
Our government – heck, almost the entire world – got it wrong on COVID. When we were able to identify the populations that were at significant risk of suffering severe consequences, our focus ought to have been on protecting those populations. Instead, governments overreached, using their authority to undermine civil rights, personal freedoms, and constitutionally protected activity, all of it justified by insisting that, “if it’ll save one person, then it’s worth it.” No. I beg to differ. If there has to be a trade off, then risking the death by virus of one person is a price society ought to be willing to pay to avoid our government assuming undue control over our lives, especially when that control is justified with lies and marked by double standards.
Bottom line: our government lied to us. Dr. Anthony Fauci, if allegations are true, was willing to lie about so much in order to cover his rear from responsibility for his role in the COVID pandemic. Millions of lives were lost. Billions of dollars were lost. Months, if not years, of academic progress were lost. Relationships and personal connections were lost. Why? So that researchers with the attitude of “if we can do it, we ought to do it” were willing to risk so much just to prove to themselves that they could do it – they could manipulate germs to empower them beyond what nature had appointed to them. And when they blew it, they employed every means possible to cover up the mess they made so they could avoid being held accountable.
