Sen. Ben Sasse Gets It Right

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE) gives a civics lesson to his fellow senators at the confirmation hearings for Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

I’ve never been a big proponent of term limits for senators and representatives, mostly because I felt that the people of any particular district or state had the right to choose who would represent them in Congress. But it seems that too many senators and representatives have turned what ought to be a humble and dignified public service into a profitable career the most important focus of which is their own continued incumbency. We were, according to our founders, supposed to have a legislature of citizen politicians committed to creating laws that best served the country. Now, we have a legislature of career politicians committed to shirking their responsibilities in the effort to secure their own political fame and fortune.

Perhaps term limits isn’t such a bad idea, after all.
