Much to the chagrin of many a Republican, the DOJ raid on Mar-a-Lago and the revelation that the FBI conspired with Facebook to suppress the Hunter Biden laptop story have put former president Donald Trump right back in the thick of things just in time for the 2022 mid-term elections.

Trump, never one to let an opportunity to bloviate pass, ranted on his personal social media app Truth Social that “THE FBI BURIED THE HUNTER BIDEN LAPTOP STORY BEFORE THE ELECTION.” In his mind, of course, there was only one solution:  “REMEDY: Declare the rightful winner, or, and this would be the minimal solution, declare the 2020 Election irreparably compromised and have a new Election, immediately!”

All of this only two weeks after Trump said, “the temperature has to be brought down” in American politics. Well, so much for cooling things off!

At a time when the Republicans were hoping to make the mid-terms about inflation, crime, the border crisis, energy, and any number of other failings of the Biden administration, Trump – with a lot of help from the DOJ, the FBI, and the media – has managed to make it about himself again.

I certainly understand that Trump was unfairly attacked during his time in office. I certainly understand that the DOJ has practiced a double standard in how they’ve treated Trump verses how Clinton was treated and how Hunter Biden was treated (and even Joe Biden, given his influence peddling). But I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: the best thing for this country would be for Trump to quietly go away. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: that’s not going to happen.
